Parents as Teachers, or PAT, is a nationally recognized, evidence-based Home Visiting model that serves families with children prenatally through kindergarten. The model is built around four dynamic components: personal visits, group connections, resource networks, and child screening. The goal is to equip families with the knowledge and resources to prepare their children for a stronger start in life and greater success in school.
Trained experts lead home visits and teach parents how to be their child’s first and best teacher. PAT helps families who need extra support, including teen parents, families with disabilities, low-income families, parents who did not finish high school, and families dealing with substance abuse.
A child’s first and most influential teachers are their caregivers and families—those who know them best and strive to see them flourish. PAT parent educators engage family members and nurture positive connections so every child can grow to reach their full potential. Since 1984, PAT has been rigorously tested by peer-reviewed studies and shown to produce outstanding results for families.
