Why Ohio providers should use Help Me Grow ASQ services:

Completing the ASQ Online as a provider

Providers can complete the ASQ Online through the Sparkler web-based dashboard. The ASQ helps to understand how an individual child is developing and whether there are any concerns. The screening identifies a child’s strengths, uncovers new milestones, and reveals areas where a child may need support.

After completing a screening, Help Me Grow may provide referrals to early intervention and home visiting services, and connect providers to local resources that can be shared with the family.

For a child’s information to show up in your dashboard, the family must associate itself with your program by either: 1) using your program’s unique access code; or 2) granting written consent for you to create the child’s profile on the dashboard.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there any fee or financial contribution associated with being a Sparkler Sponsoring Partner?

No. Becoming a Sparkler Sponsoring Partner is free for all Ohio early care and education providers, pediatricians, and healthcare providers. Taking the ASQ is also free for all families in Ohio with children through age 5.

How do I see high-level trends in Sparkler?

On the main dashboard screen, you can see overall numbers for the families that have been assigned to you by your program’s Sparkler Learning administrator. You can use the small arrows in the white rectangles to show different lengths of time so you can easily see trends within the week, month, or longer periods.

Sparkler Dashboard Preview

At the bottom of the screen, you’ll see ASQ trends. You can see how many people have completed ASQs and how many (both parent and teacher ASQs) are pending (meaning available now to complete). You can also see how many on track, monitor, and refer scores your families have received and which domains have led to those scores.

Why are more ASQs pending than I have children in my program?

For each child, two ASQs are available: One to be completed by the parent and one to be completed by a teacher/provider. So if zero families and zero teachers had completed their current ASQ-3s, you would see: 2 x (# students) = # of ASQs available. Providers are not required to complete an ASQ, but the opportunity exists if they choose to complete one.

How can I use the Library in the Sparkler Dashboard?

You can use the Library to find activities and tips that meet families’ needs. If you are serving a child of a particular age, you can find activities for that age child. You can also filter by the skill you want to work on with the family. Once you find something, you can press send to share it with a family or multiple families that you serve. You can also find TIPS for parents by clicking on the “tips” tab at the top. Learn more from this video webinar

Is there a document providers can obtain permission to complete the ASQs on the dashboard?

If the provider is creating the family/child account on the family’s behalf in Sparkler, a permission form should be used by the provider to capture the parent’s consent. The provider will be checking that the parent consented in order to create the account. Programs may choose to use this sample permission form or create a similar one of their own.
